PICASSO MUSEUM
© Museu Picasso.
If you visit Barcelona, this is the one museum you must see, both on account of the artist and of the building housing his work. Imagine, right in the middle of the Gothic Quarter (historic center of the city), five palaces (dating from the 13th and 14th centuries) linked together to exhibit the works of one of the most renowned and acclaimed artists on the international artistic scene. This is a charming place to visit and get immersed in the Catalan environment. With regard to Pablo Ruiz Picasso, the museum is indispensable in order to understand his formative years. The mastery of the young artist is revealed in the more than 3,300 pieces that make up the permanent collection. The museum also shows his very close connection to Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped during his adolescence and youth and continued until his death. You will remember his bullfighting (“corrida”) pieces and will enjoy the museum’s outdoor terrace and bookshop.
